MANGAWHAI GOLF COURSE

In early 2020 the Mangawhai Golf Club was approached by a local company offering support to assist with a range of activities associated with ecological enhancement within our golf course.
One key goal was to attract more native bird life through some higher plantings as we know the  golf club is on the flight path of  some migratory species.
We were particularly impressed with Waterways  work ethics of  providing employment and education opportunities for local young people and also their approach to caring for the environment through lack of  use of heavy equipment.
750- 800 wattle were cut and chipped on site involving many thousands of tons of handling. In addition, a start was made on gorse and pampas grass clearing before the allocated funds ran out.
Waterways operated their team with proficiency and professionalism. They illustrated a positive and professional approach to Health and Safety and  worked in a clean and tidy manner especially with regard to  how the property was left. There teams were always engaging, pleasant, courteous and well managed.
We will continue to work with them on appropriate projects and appreciate their interest and support on helping to find funding sources.
Funding is the challenging lifeblood for Waterways and  golf clubs, like ourselves who have the  desire to  enhance and present a fresh and sustainable environment but don’t necessarily have the funds available. Mangawhai Golf Club lies testament to the fact that such funds can make a material difference to  course aesthetics and that the job done is just the start to on-going maintenance and diligence.
